The Commerce Department’s Exporter Data Base reveals that companies with fewer than 500 workers accounted for 97 percent of all U.S. exporters.
The number of small and medium-sized businesses that exported merchandise doubled from 1992 to 2006. Increasingly, smaller firms, particularly in the computer and telecommunications industries, are born global, since they can achieve a worldwide presence within a short period of time.
Do you feel that the current government policies are conducive to small business trade? What would happen if many small businesses had to close, would the economy fill the void?
