Weekly News- China and North Korea to develop trade zones
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s uncle Jang Song Taek met with Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming this week to discuss the development of trade zones.
China is North Korea’s most important ally, geographically, economically and politically. Kim, who has led North Korea since his father’s death in December, plans to strengthen and stabilize the nation’s economy. This move is viewed as a potential precursor.
The ‘two economic zones’ may include China’s investment in infrastructure and power, known as the Hwanggumphyong and Wihwado Economic Zone and the Rason Economic Trade Zone, at the Yalu River area.
