Georgetown First Year Seminar

I am delighted to have Ing. Jaroslava Pokorna Jermanová, who is the governor of the Central Bohemia Region of Czech Republic to our seminar. It’s such an honor to listen to her insights and the students all learned a lot from yesterday’s session.

Over the years, she has been employed by several private companies including a family enterprise to produce furniture, and before 2014 she was an advertising and marketing executive. She also founded the Women’s Academy, which aims to attract more women into politics.

After a heated and arduous election campaign, it is clear that Donald Trump has won the race for the US presidency. The candidate, who is particularly striking in the election campaign with outrageous speeches and full-bodied announcements, promised to create 25 million jobs, invest massively in the infrastructure, and re-establish trade agreements. So what is coming to the US? Foreclosure and isolation, new tariffs and exploding state debts – How many expert prophesies are there? Will Trump lead to an economic catastrophe or a new miracle? Astrid Petermann discusses with Michael Czinkota, a professor at the Georgetown University in Washington and Valentin Hofstätter, analyst and US expert at Raiffeisen Research, in the Austrian economic magazine SALDO.

Trabajando en la Redefinición del Marketing Internacional

Over the past couple of days there have been various posts on Professor Michael Czinkota’s editorial article, “Marketing Internacional Curativo: Nuevo Enfoque en el Campo”. The importance of International Marketing has been discussed both as an aspect of international business and as an academic field. There are clear benefits to international marketing (third installment), but there are also areas that could use improvement (fourth installment.

There are also four different approaches that are presented in order to demonstrate the various ways of working within the new definition of international marketing. They include The Context on the Field – El Contexto en el Campo, The World and its Problems – Verificar la Realidad: Observen el Mundo y sus Problemas, Integration and Proximity – Integración y Proximidad, and Doing the Right Thing and Correctly – Hacer Cosas Correctamente y Hacerlo Correcto.

He classifies them into four groups: The context in the field, the world and its problems, integration and proximity, and doing the right thing and in the correct manner.

Today we will discuss:

Hacer Cosas Correctamente y Hacerlo Correcto – Doing the Right Thing and in the Correct Manner

What influences us and what we deem important are issues discussed in this section. Light is also shed on the role of government in international business, the idea of there being winners and losers, and the limits that should be established for businesses.

This section touches on the importance of communicating with critics of the field, addressing the norms that are used within the field, and getting personally involved as fundamental to the role of international marketing.
